With over 25 years experience as a small business owner and entrepreneur, John's ventures began in southern California and included the starting and operation of companies in the field of business consulting and sales; escrow and mortgage loan brokerage; commercial and residential land acquisitions and development; and, the formation of syndications and limited partnerships. His areas of expertise include comprehensive business planning, efficiency and productivity improvement, and strategic problem solving.
After moving to the Reno area in 1991, he became Operations Manager at Nevada Land and Resource Company,(a joint land acquisition between Morgan Stanley and Western Water) and was charged with the responsibility of determining the highest and best use for over 1.4 million acres,(2,200 square miles) of private land, located along the highway 80 corridor in northern Nevada between Reno and Elko. During his tenure, John was directly responsible for over 500 transactions involving the sales, licensing, and leasing of agricultural farms, cattle grazing, microwave communications sites, major utility company easements, industrial plants, oil & gas production ventures, mineral and mining sites, and geothermal production facilities.
In a more recent local business venture, John acquired a historic cocktail lounge and gaming establishment in downtown Reno, originally built in 1938. He obtained a Nevada Gaming license and compiled a comprehensive business plan that included the principles of participative management, aggressive marketing techniques, and a focus on customer satisfaction. The business investment quickly appreciated and was sold for over 2.5 times the original purchase price in less than 3 years.
John is a Registered Instructor for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation providing ServSafe Program Certifications for food and beverage establishment operation as required by the Washoe County Health Department. His formal education in the field of food and beverage includes his enrollment at the Culinary Institute of America where he has completed courses in professional food management, preparation and service.
His commitment to community involvement has been widely recognized and acknowledged with commendations and resolutions from the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation, Los Angeles City Council, California State Senate, California State Assembly, and the Easter Seals Foundation.
John fully understands the joys and frustrations of business ownership and is committed to providing the highest level of professionalism and service to the Reno business community.
